  • Set within an Amsterdam School building renowned for its intricate brickwork and sculptural architecture, the Collectors Home bears witness to this heritage through its horizontal lines and stained glass.

The interior functions as a carefully choreographed experience, where furniture selection dictates how one should sit, stand, and move through the space. Alongside a tonal colour palette that evokes specific emotional responses, every element has been meticulously curated. With an ideal balance of client feedback and creative freedom, the DAB Studio team established key design principles that shaped the home's interior, then elevated them further still.

A rich, earthy colour palette anchors the scheme, complemented by textures that bring tactile depth throughout. The living room's marbled mahogany feature wall takes centre stage, bathed in the soft glow of ring-shaped wall sconces that pay homage to the Amsterdam School period.

The fireplace itself presented a structural challenge—unable to be moved, it was instead reconstructed and enlarged. This intentional off-centre placement creates space for another Amsterdam School reference: a small black marble disc. The glass material from the coffee table's surface finds echo in the fireplace threshold, creating visual continuity throughout the space.

In the dining room, a 17th-century contemporary artwork hangs above the DAB Studio-designed table—one of only three 'non-negotiable' items requested by the clients, alongside the Wassily chair and Cassina Soriana sofa.

The silk curtains in opulent ochre speak to the kitchen benchtop, which appears as though golden olive oil has been poured over stainless steel. A hammered red copper fringed table lamp by Hendrik Methorst from the DAB Studio collection provides sculptural interest, paired with artwork from the client's private collection and harmonising beautifully with the burnt sienna hues of the timber cabinetry beneath.

A Collectors Home by DAB Studio stands as an exquisite example of architectural translation—taking a movement integral to Amsterdam's identity and reinterpreting it for contemporary living. Through the careful curation of the client's private art collection, new artworks, and iconic furniture pieces, the Collectors Home has been brought to life as both homage and evolution.
